Rushmoor Royal Level 3 Long Course Meet: 30-31 March 2013

Tilehurst SC swimmers returned from two galas over the Easter weekend with a total of 39 medals. Sixteen swimmers attended the Rushmoor Royals and Hart Swimming Clubs Long Course Level 3 Meet held at Aldershot Garrison. Daniel McNamara swam impressively at his first long course meet bringing home 2 gold medals in the 10yr old boys 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle plus bronze medals in the 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke. Alex Bowsher also picked up two golds in the 14yr old boys 100m and 50m butterfly with silvers for 50m and 100m freestyle. Holly O’Farrell and Tom Garden built on their success at the recent County Championships –Holly won 4 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze and Tom won 3 golds and 1 silver. Gold medals were also won by Louise French for the 15 yr old girls 400m individual medley and James Rogers for 12 yr old boys 50m butterfly. In total, 30 medals were won by Tilehurst swimmers with Timmy Pitman, Ben Dinsdale, David Rogers, Hannah Larsen and Peter Adrian all contributing to the haul.

Basingstoke Bluefin Level 3 Short Course Meet: 30 March 2013

On Easter Saturday a group of eighteen swimmers went to the Basingstoke Bluefins Easter Egg Meet. Many of the swimmers were competing for the first time outside of club galas. The meet involved 50m sprints for all four strokes. All the swimmers gained personal best times and 9 medals were won. Hannah Larsen was the star of the meet gaining medals in all four events for the 13 yr old girls (gold in 50m freestyle, silver 50m backstroke and butterfly, and bronze for 50m breaststroke).  Anna Winthrop picked up one medal of each colour and Ellie Clark took home a silver medal for the14 yr old girls 50m breaststroke. In the boys’ events, Mark Rogers won silver for the 14yr old 50m backstroke. He and Joshua Gibson were also given ‘speeding tickets’ for swimming faster than the quickest entry time allowed. Joshua gained his in the 11 and under 50m butterfly and Mark for 50m breaststroke.

Tilehurst swimmers performed well at the first weekend of the Berkshire and South Bucks County Championships this weekend coming away with 7 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze Age group medals and 20 rosettes (4th-8th place). We were also represented 9 times in Championship and Junior Championship finals (Lizzie Gray-50m and 100m fly, David Rogers -100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, Alex Cawthorne-100m breaststroke, Tom Garden-100m backstroke, Holly O'Farrell-100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke). Lizzy and David finished 3rd in the 50m fly and 100m breaststroke respectively and were presented with their Championship medals by the President of the Berks and Bucks ASA.

Linden Dixon, Alex Bowsher, Beth McMillan, Rachel Coombes, Daniel McNamara and Anna Winthrop all performed well in their first County Championships representing Tilehurst. Tom Garden, also qualifying for the first time, made a fantastic debut winning 4 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Holly O'Farrell won 2 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronze medals. Other medal winners were Alex Cawthorne (bronze 100m and 200m breaststroke), Lizzy Gray (gold 50m fly and silver 100m fly) and David Rogers (bronze 50m freestyle).

The remaining members of the Tilehurst team, Anya Charrington, Alice Hartney and James Rogers, all swam well achieving impressive PBs and several rosettes.

The Tilehurst Open Meet 2013 will be held on Saturday, June 15th, at Reading Central Pools.

Ribbon Galas are a brilliant introduction to gala swimming; We held our secondmeet at the Crosfields' pool on February 2nd, and it was great to see so  many swimmers there.
