Head Coach - Adam Barrett

Adam is our Head Coach here at Tilehurst swimming club with more than 20 years of experience within the sport both as an athlete and swimmer. He has a strong passion for swimming and aims to pass down much of the knowledge gained over the years to the swimmers of the club.
Previously a swimmer at Tilehurst before heading of to Loughborough University to gain a degree in Sport Science with Management and Development continued his swimming journey going from strength to strength having success both nationally and internationally, including medalling at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships, placing 4th at a World Championships and breaking multiple British Records during this time.
After deciding to retire from racing competitively Adam returned to Tilehurst Swimming Club in September 2017 where he has been part of the coaching staff since. Including taking over the role of Head Coach in December 2021. In 2021 Adam returned to competitive swimming whilst continuing he role with Tilehurst Swimming Club managing to be part of the winning team in that Seasons International Swimming League and Qualifying for his second Commonwealth Games before deciding to retire from competitive swimming again in August 2022.
During this period of coaching with Tilehurst Adam has coached swimmers to medals at county, regional and national level competitions in a variety of events whilst leading the club to its highest ever finish in the National Arena League Championships.
Adam has had great levels of exposure to some of the best coaches within the world of swimming during his career and uses much of the knowledge throughout the sessions at Tilehurst Swimming Club.
Assistant Coach - Ben Dinsdale

Ben is our assistant head coach at Tilehurst swimming club, he has been involved with swimming since the age of 6, firstly as a swimmer, now as a coach. Ben has a great affection towards the sport and wishes to encourage swimmers to grasp that same excitement. Ben has been a part of Tilehurst’s coaching staff since 2017, often covering sessions before moving into a permanent role in 2023.
As a swimmer Ben swam at Tilehurst for 11 years before moving to Winchester University to study Psychology and consequently joining Winchester City Swimming Club for 4 years. From there Ben has been fortunate to train under some excellent coaches and achieve County and Regional gold, a Swim England summer national silver medal, and represent the South East region at the Luxembourg International Swim Meet. Ben finished his swimming career at the 2024 British Swimming Championships/Olympic Trials.
As a coach Ben is involved throughout the club, coaching Dev, Jag, and Top which involve County medalists, regional, and national qualifiers, as well as assisting in Tilehurst’s highest finish in the National Arena League. Ben uses his love for the sport to create fulfilling and enjoyable sessions at Tilehurst swimming Club for all ages, for swimmers to reach their full potential.
